HE is LORD

Once in a while we all get the impulse to clean out drawers, pantries and even our closets.  But, most of the time we avoid doing it because we really do not like things to change.  However, sometimes it is good to clear out those drawers, old papers, pictures and books because you never know what treasures you will find.  It may be: inspirational, a good or sad remembrance or it may be exactly what you may need at that very moment.  I came across this article while I was cleaning out some drawers and I want to pass it along to you.  The title is:  HE IS LORD (unknown author)

He is the first and last, the beginning and the end!
He is the keeper of Creation and the creator of all!
He is the Architect of the universe and the manager of all time!
He always was, He always is and
He always will be unmoved, unchanged, undefeated and never undone!

He was bruised and brought healing!
He was pierced and eased pain!
He was persecuted and brought freedom!
He was dead and brought life!
He is Risen and brings power!
He reigns and brings peace!

The world can’t understand Him,
the armies can’t defeat Him, the schools can’t explain Him
and the leaders can’t ignore Him.
Herod couldn’t kill Him,
the Pharisees couldn’t confuse Him and the people couldn’t hold Him!
Nero couldn’t crush Him, Hitler couldn’t silence Him and the New Age can’t replace Him!
He is light, love, longevity and Lord!
He is goodness, kindness, gentleness and God!
He is holy, righteous, mighty, powerful and pure!

His ways are right, His word is eternal,
His will is unchanging and His mind is on me!
You tell us that we are precious to You
You are my Redeemer, my Savior, my guide and my peace!
You are my joy, my comfort, my Lord and He rules my life!

I serve Him because His bond is love,
His burden is light and His goal for me is abundant life!
I follow Him because He is the wisdom of the wise,
The power of the powerful, the ancient of days,
The ruler of rulers, the leader of leaders,
The overseer of the overcomers,
and the sovereign Lord of all that was and is and is to come!

He will never leave me, never forsake me,  never mislead me, never forget me and never overlook me!

When I fall, He lifts me up!
When I fail, He forgives!
When I am weak, He is strong!
When I am lost, He is the way!
When I am afraid, He is my courage!
When I stumble, He steadies me!
When I am hurt, He heals me!
When I am broken, He mends me!
When I am hungry, He feeds me!
When I face trials, He is with me!
When I face persecution, He shields me!
When I face problems, He comforts me!
When I face loss, He provides for me!
When I face death, He will carry me home!

He is God!
He is faithful.
I am His and He is mine!

God is in control!
I am on His side and that means all is well with my soul.
Remind us Lord that everyday is a blessing because You are Lord!

Encourage Yourself in the LORD!

6/1/2022

When you saw this title, I know many of you were saying where saying to yourself, "what do you mean we have to encourage ourselves in the Lord?".   I know we all believe that we are the victims and that no one else has it as bad as we do.   There may even be times in life when you feel that life is not worth living because we are faced with one hopeless situation after another; but remember, the Bible was given to us to be an example to us to show us how to handle all the things of life.

There is a portion of scripture in 1 Samuel 30: 1-31 which describes how King David felt when he lost all his possessions to the enemy.  It gives us a real-life example of something that occurred in Davids's life!

David was to be the next king of Israel; but the present King Saul was not happy because he wanted his son Jonathan to become king.  So, David spent much time on the run from King Saul and his men.  But David and his 600 men moved from place to place and he would help the countries that were having difficulties.  As these passages open up, we find that David and his men had defeated the Amalekites.  They return home to  Ziklag on the third day only to find out that the Amalekites had raided Ziklag.   To make matters worse, they not only raided Ziklag but they burned the city and had taken captive the women and all who were in it - they even they took all the children both young and old. The good news is that they killed none of them, however they did carry them off as they went on their way.

When David and his men came back to Ziklag, they found it destroyed by fire and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive.  To make matters worse the 600 men who were with David were ready to kill him. His men were ready to stone David.  So you think you are having a bad day?  When David and his men realized what had happened, they began to weep and kept on weeping until they had no more strength to weep.  They were completely heart broken and discouraged.   They had lost all hope for their lives and families.  They were shaken to the core by this tragedy.

Well, have you ever been there?   Can you relate to what David was feeling?

Remember, even though David was called by GOD and anointed by the Prophet to be the future king of Israel, he had to go through this heart-breaking experience before he could become King.  This serves as a good reminder that sometimes we may have to go through heart breaking experiences on the road to the destiny in our lives.  Scripture goes on to tell us that David did not wallow or stumble in his misery.  What did he do?   He went to the Priest and they prayed to the Lord, asking for guidance, "what should he do?".  His prayer was: ”Lord, do we go after this motley crew and overtake them or not? “   The Lord answered:  "Pursue for you will certainly win".

So David and his 400 men (200 said they were too tired to even go with David) decided to pursue the enemy.  As they were pursuing they just happened to come upon a young Egyptian in the field and who had been a servant to the Amalekites army, but he gave David some good news that the wives and all the children were not dead.   He asked David to spare his life and that he would show them where the enemy was taking all the women and children.  Clearly God provided this Egyptian for David and David was able to get all the wives, and the children and possessions back to their families.

Can I get an AMEN?

Maybe you are saying, that is a nice passage of scripture, but what does it mean for me?    We have to get back to the point where we can understand that God is the God of the impossible.  God who is Creator of Heaven and Earth can override the laws of science that is what we call a miracle and only God can do it.  God has promised that He will never leave us or forsake us and that is exactly what He has promised to everyone who has humbled themselves and said: “I will serve you Lord”.

Why did David go through this trouble?  We don’t really know; perhaps it was to teach David a lesson.  And perhaps the bigger question is why are we going through things; perhaps it is to teach us a lesson that we need to stop and ask the Lord do we pursue?  Do we go after certain things or do we stay put.  However, I may not know the answer but I know it will be good for us.  God has the best in mind for us.

Are our ideas God ideas or are they man’s ideas?   You see that is why we have to take our requests to the Lord in prayer.

Let me give you an illustration:  Voltaire was a brilliant philosopher who lived several hundred years ago. He was a French atheist who made it his life’s work to go after and criticize the Word of God. He did not want to hear about God and the Bible.  So, Voltaire decided that in his lifetime, the world would hear no more of the Bible and God.   This was quite a boast.  Well, Voltaire’s been dead for more than 300 years. But in the very house where Voltaire made that statement, the Geneva Bible Society did a wonderful business distributing Bibles—they were stacked from floor to ceiling in what once was Voltaire’s house.

There are many people who over the many years have pronounced the death of the Bible, but the corpse has outlived the pallbearers. The Bible is not the book of the month, it is the Book of the Ages.  Open one up and start reading it.  You will be amazed at what you will find out.   Read the word today, you never know, you may just read something and be able to encourage yourself in the LORD!

Special Christmas Message: Worship HIS Majesty

12/23/2021

Jack Hayford and his wife Anna were vacationing in Britain during the 25th anniversary of the coronation of Elizabeth II.  While there, the Hayfords saw constant reminders of royalty which, along with visits to several castles, caused Hayford to sense what it might be like to be “raised as a child in such regal settings.”  With this thought in mind, he asked Anna to write down these words one day as they drove through the countryside:
“Majesty, worship his majesty.  Unto Jesus be all glory, power, and praise.”
Thus “Majesty” one of today’s most glorious praise songs was born.

In the Bible, Jesus is called “High Priest”, “Prince of Peace”, “Lamb of God”,
“Bread of Life”, “Light of the World”, and “Good Shepherd".

So how are we to respond?

We are to “exalt, lift up the name of Jesus” each day, and in all we do “glorify Christ
Jesus the King
”.  Our primary task in life is to worship His Majesty!  It is not with
great trumpets - or magnificent choirs - but in simple acts of service that we reflect and
reveal the glory of God.  Maybe it is while washing dishes at home, or vacuuming the
carpet, or changing diapers, or caring for crying babies.  Maybe it is while driving on the highway, or when you display a different attitude than any of your co-workers at work.  Maybe it is out there in a world that seems so alienated from God that you can just consistently day after day witness, share, reflect, and reveal the glory of God.

In the United States today, we do not see that reverence or respect for our leaders.  In fact, our leaders are subjected to intense scrutiny and often harsh criticism and sometimes unjustified attacks. One doesn’t get the sense of majesty and respect in the tone of journalists as they interact and question our leaders.  Instead, our leaders are the subject of laughter and ridicule as our comedians make a living off of their perceived weaknesses and mistakes.  Unfortunately, it seems that we bring that same attitude to our understanding of the Bible and God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

As you think back over the last few years, have you noticed that our view of God has
suffered from our failure to capture a sense of His Majesty?   The God of contemporary
evangelicalism is a very personal God -- someone with whom we can enjoy intimate
fellowship. He is our best friend and the One to whom we can bring all of our troubles to.
We have a great High Priest who became flesh and blood so that He can be a perfect
mediator between God and man.

However, there is an old saying that states: familiarity breeds contempt.  We even have
those who refer to God as “the man upstairs”, “the Boss” and other demeaning titles -  none of which appear in scripture!

So what have we attained by emphasizing that God can be no different than the neighbor next door?

Yes, we can have a closeness to God, an intimate relationship with Him: but as always we Americans stretch things a bit too far.  It has resulted in this consequence -- we have lost sight of His Majesty.  There is a great gulf that exists between God and us because of His greatness.  He is not like us, although we were made in HIS image.   God is not limited, like we are, in His wisdom, in His presence, in His power, in His effectiveness.  He is Eternal, Infinite, and Almighty.  He deserves our reverence and adoration.  The Bible tells us that the Majesty of God is tied to the fear of God.  Not to be afraid of Him but to have awe and reverence for who He is.

Perhaps our lack of the sense of the Majesty of our LORD is one of the key reasons why our faith is so weak and our worship so floppy and flabby.   We don’t serve a God who is big enough to solve our problems.  We don’t have a God that we believe is not worthy of our time and effort expended in prayer and praise and adoration. We have a God that we want to manage and control. We have a God that we have remade into our own image instead of remembering that HE IS the King of Kings and Lord of Lords who reigns and is Supreme over the universe.

He is the Creator, the Master Designer and Controller of the entirety of the world.  He is not a part-time God we can call on just when we need help.  He is not a Santa Claus who is to do our bidding, to fulfill all our desires and dreams.  He is the soon coming King who will return to earth again and every eye shall see.

This Christmas don't just think about HIM as a "cute, little baby who was born in a manger a long time ago".   This Christmas, take time to truly worship HIM as HE IS!  He is the One who was and who is and who is to come and we need to be sure to worship HIM in all of HIS MAJESTY!
