Paul was writing this letter to Timothy, his son in the faith, and he was instructing Timothy that this was to be his focus - the greatest education any one could ever have. Paul was reminding Timothy (and all of us), that Christ should be the object of our faith!
The entire Bible points directly to Jesus Christ and what He did for us on the Cross. The Old Testament points forward to His coming and what He would do on the cross. The New Testament points backward to what He had already accomplished on the cross!
The only right and proper object of our faith, the only right answer is: the Person of Jesus Christ (Galatians 2:16;Philippians 3:9). He is the ONE in Whom we believe. He is Whom we trust. He is Whom we listen to and it is He whom we should obey.
You might say then that it is not "faith" that saves you, but rather the "object" of our faith - Jesus Christ! LET ME GIVE YOU AN ILLUSTRATION: Suppose you are standing in an open window on the top floor of a 20-story building that is totally consumed with fire. As the flames begin to burn your skin, through the smoke you see firefighters on the ground standing in a circle holding a net. So by faith, trusting the net, you have no choice but to jump into the net to keep you from dying in the fiery flames. About halfway down you can see more clearly and, to your disbelief, you see that it's not firefighters in a circle with a net after all! It's a circle of Hare Krishnas holding hands and singing "Kum-ba-yah." At that point, will your faith save you? The answer is NO. Therefore, just saying you have "faith" won't save you, unless that faith is in the ONLY ONE that can save you - JESUS and in the blood that HE shed on the cross to redeem us from eternal damnation!
For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. —Galatians 3:26.
Examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you—unless indeed you fail the test? —2 Corinthians 13:5.
Two words best describe faith: confidence and assurance. These two qualities need a secure beginning and ending point. The beginning point of faith is believing in God's character– He is who He says He is. The endpoint is believing in God's promises – He will do what He says.
When we place our faith in Jesus and what He did for us at the Cross, we will be empowered to serve not through our own strength, but from the strength of Our God. When we live in a relationship with God, God acts through us and in us and we can trust that God will provide the ability to put our faith into action. This kind of life is not optional for Christians. Do you believe it?????????
